Yes, we offer transfers between Lilongwe, Nkhotakota, and our lodge.
A one-way transfer from Lilongwe to Bua River Lodge is USD 150 per vehicle (maximum 3 persons).
A one-way transfer from Nkhotakota Town to Bua River Lodge is USD 25 per vehicle (maximum 3 persons).

You don’t need a 4×4 to reach Bua River Lodge. During the rainy season the road can be slippery, but it is still possible to get to the lodge. However, we do not recommend going on a game drive without a 4×4 vehicle between November and April.

If needed, we can always pick you up at the park entrance gate, where it is safe to leave your car.

Whilst we encourage you to put away the phones and unhook from the world whilst staying with us, we know how important it can be to check in with work or loved ones. We do offer wifi and charging in the main lodge area. Please can we ask that if you do need to connect that it is done so discreetly and does not disturb the tranquility for the animals.

Whilst our team would be delighted for a tip, tipping in Malawi is not as common as in the US or Europe. Should you wish to reward our team, please can we ask that you leave it at the end of your stay in the tipping box, or ask for it to be added to your invoice. We will ensure the whole team benefit, even those you may not meet, though do let us know if you wanted to specifically leave for an individual.

The local currency is kwacha, though you are not able to get it before arriving in country. Dollars are also accepted as currency in many instances, though make sure you bring notes newer than 2017.
For all bookings we will request a deposit payment, this can be made into our dollar account. At the Lodge we will accept both Dollar and Kwacha cash payments for additional extras (bar and activities) or you can pay by bank transfer.

Nkhotakota is located in a malaria area, so we encourage all our guests to take simple precautions to stay healthy during their stay. Please consult your doctor before traveling about suitable malaria prophylaxis. In the lodge, mosquito nets are provided in all rooms, and we recommend using insect repellent in the evenings. Light, long-sleeved clothing after sunset is also helpful.
With these measures in place, the risk is well managed, and you can relax and enjoy your safari experience with peace of mind.

In Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve there are no lions.

Our lodge welcomes families and children, and many young guests find the safari experience truly unforgettable. Safety is our top priority: because we are located in the heart of the wilderness, wildlife can sometimes wander close to the lodge. For this reason, children must always be supervised by an adult and should not walk around on their own, especially after dark.
