The centrepiece of Bua River Lodge is the lodge itself. Described as unique in Malawi, it is constructed entirely of timber and thatch. It stands on the banks of the Bua River, with wonderful views downstream and of the wilderness on the opposite bank. Completely open-sided, it provides cool shade even on the hottest of days.
The lodge is constructed on four levels.
Eat dinner on the uncovered dining deck at the lowest level with the stars and moon (as well as a romantic oil lamp) for illumination.
Move out of the heat of the day under cover for lunch, on the shady middle deck, which also houses the small bar. Or relax on the upper deck with a book in one of the cane armchairs.
Last, but certainly not least, watch the sunset while sipping a cool drink from the viewing deck set in the roof of the lodge, high above the river.
At night, a blazing log fire at the riverside boma wards of the chill of the winter's evening.
We provide set meals, with vegetarian alternative. Our guests compliment our tasty and hearty food.
For breakfast eat as much or as little as you choose, from fruit salad and cereal, to a full-blown cooked breakfast with bacon, sausage, eggs, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms and toast.
Lunch is a light meal, salad served with cheeses and cold meats and home-made bread.
Our dinners comprise four courses and have received much praise – our fresh tomato soup has been called the "best ever".
If you stay in either of the Island tents you have the option of breakfast served on your deck, an experience not to be missed, as you watch the sun rise over the forest and the river glide below you.
Wherever you choose to eat, you choose the time. No set meal times here nor communal dinners!
