Due to the translocation by African Parks of 250 elephants and 100 buffalo into the sanctuary area, which includes the bush camping location, this activity is temporarily suspended until the animals have had a chance to settle down in their new environment.
Do you sometimes enjoy foregoing the pleasures of modern camping – the hot showers, flushing toilets, manicured camp site – for a taste of wild Africa? Do you yearn for a true wild camping experience?
Bua River Lodge now offers a supported bush camping experience as a stand-alone activity or as part of a longer stay at the Lodge.
Nyankhoma Pool is located about 12 Km west of Bua River Lodge, where the Bua River exits from its gorge. The camp site is shaded by large trees and overlooks the river and the hills on the northern bank.
The camp site is reached by an afternoon walk through the forest, by which time your tents will be pitched, shower water warmed and cold drinks ready. We will prepare a full dinner over an open fire while you enjoy the tranquility of the wilderness evening. In the morning, after a full cooked breakfast, you set off back down the Bua River back to the Lodge, in time for lunch.
The Bush Camping Experience is available from early May to early December
