Solitude, Peace and Guaranteed Relaxation

Inside the lodge

On the banks of the beautiful Bua River in Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve, Central Malawi, Bua River Lodge offers fine, en-suite, tented accommodation to a very high standard but at moderate prices. Open just over three years, Bua River Lodge is already highly acclaimed for the friendliness of our staff, the quality of the accommodation, the standard of service and our excellent food!

Small and owner-managed, with staff drawn entirely from local communities, you can be assured of a relaxing and friendly stay with us. Whether you choose the luxury Island tents, or the smaller Hillside, you will always be made to feel at home and given as much (or as little) attention as you wish.

Three hearty meals per day, as well as afternoon tea, are served in the unique timber and thatch multi-level lodge, placed right on the bank of the Bua River, with wonderful views downstream and across to the wilderness on the opposite bank.

If you prefer to cater for yourself, the iconic Bua Camp Site has been refurbished with hot showers and flushing toilets, a braii and a tree-shaded deck. Clean, comfortable budget accommodation for backpackers is also available. Campers and backpackers are welcome to use the lodge facilities.

We are developing a network of wilderness walking safari trails inside the Reserve for those of you who prefer a more active holiday. See the Activities page for details.

Whether you want to fish, watch birds, walk in the wilderness or just chill on the extensive deck of your tent, Bua River Lodge is the place to get away from it all and just relax.
