At Bua River Lodge, every day begins with the sound of the river flowing gently past and the calls of birds echoing through the forest. From here, you can step straight into the heart of Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve and experience its wild beauty up close.

Our guided walks take you along hidden paths where elephants leave their footprints in the sand and antelope move quietly through the tall grass. If you prefer to venture further, we can take you on game drives into the reserve, where the chances of seeing wildlife grow with every bend in the track. And when the sun sets, a night drive reveals a completely different world, filled with the sounds and sights of nocturnal animals.

For those who want to truly immerse themselves in the bush, stay a while of an evening and sit around the fire, share stories under the stars, and fall asleep to the sounds of the wilderness.

Head out on an unforgettable safari through the reserve in a comfortable open safari car. With the wind in your hair and wide views all around, you’ll have the chance to spot elephants, buffalo, antelopes, and many other species up close in their natural habitat.

Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve is a true paradise for bird lovers. With more than 280 recorded species, the park offers an incredible diversity of birdlife, from rare forest dwellers to colorful river birds.

Along the Bua River you may spot kingfishers diving into the water, bee-eaters flashing through the air, or fish eagles calling from the treetops. In the woodland and miombo forest, patient birdwatchers can find species such as the Narina trogon, Livingstone’s flycatcher, and various sunbirds. The reserve is also home to several raptors, including hawk-eagles and owls, which add an exciting dimension to the experience.
